			<summary type="html"><![CDATA[<p>From the Boston Herald, Friday, April 29, 2005</p><p><strong>Lobstermen say stripers&#039; fancy diet a pain in the bass</strong></p><p><a href="http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=80795">http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegio … leid=80795</a></p><p>By Laura Crimaldi</p><p>Apparently, the striped bass is celebrating its population rebound with a lobster feast. </p><p>More than 20 years after the region&#039;s striped bass population hit a low of 5 million, about 50 million stripers are swimming the Atlantic coast looking for a lobster dinner as lobstermen watch their livelihood be eaten alive.</p><p>&quot;There are some people who say (the striped bass) are following our boats,&quot; said Massachusetts Lobstermen Association Director Bill Adler, whose agency is trying to stave off a lobster shortage by stocking the waters with millions of baby lobsters. </p><p>Adler doesn&#039;t think the striped bass&#039; appetite will force consumers to swallow higher lobster prices this summer, but that may change if the hungry stripers keep chomping on crustaceans. </p><p>&quot;We found lobsters in striped bass stomachs, but we can&#039;t estimate how much of the lobster population that they are really consuming,&quot; said Gary Nelson, a senior marine fisheries biologist for the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries.</p><p>- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -</p><p>If this is true, does it suggest that shorts should be thrown back at locations only where stripers are less prevalent?&nbsp; Does anyone sense they are being followed by a school of foraging stripers?</p><p>Cliff</p>]]></summary>

			<title type="html"><![CDATA[When you live in paradise...]]></title>

I am constantly struck by how quickly I assimilate the environment here...the raw beauty...the way that the surroundings so quickly permeate my frame of mind...my context of living.</p><p>I think that, when one is forced to be away from this town for an extended period, it becomes only too evident how much is missed when one is away.</p><p>It&#039;s good to be back for 2005.</p><p>You lucky ducks.</p><p>Kev.</p>]]></summary>

			<title type="html"><![CDATA[Remember Glenn?]]></title>

			<summary type="html"><![CDATA[<p>According to an article in today&#039;s Time&#039;s Record, Glenn Berger, an LNG industry security insider has lost his bid for &quot;whistle blower&quot; status protection. Glenn was a frequent contributor to the Anchor forum, until his employer discovered what he was doing. Glenn says his employer threatened him with termination, abridged his first amendment rights, defamed his character, and transfered him to the day shift in retaliation for his contention that a LNG terminal in Harpswell would have made it a target for terrorists. Somewhere along the line he lost his top secret security clearance as well.</p><p>A sad footnote to the LNG battle in Harpswell. Sometimes I wish those Anchor boards could have been kept up as a sort of museum. There was a lot of wasted time represented there, but also a few truly heroic moments.</p>]]></summary>

			<title type="html"><![CDATA[Selectman's race]]></title>

			<summary type="html"><![CDATA[<p>I picked up a copy of the Harpswell Anchor this weekend and was interested in the article on the Selectman&#039;s race and several items that related to the candidates.</p><p>I admit to being a bit troubled at the prospect of having two out of three selectmen be in the construction business.&nbsp; It seems to me that we need some new thinking on the Selectboard, not a further narrowing of ideas.&nbsp; </p><p>But to me, the most troubling aspect of Sam Alexander&#039;s candidacy is the across-the-board endorsement he has received from the two current and one out-going selectmen.&nbsp; This suggests an unfortunate power consolidation; one that is bound to further close the town&#039;s governance process to all but the few and the well connected.&nbsp; </p><p>Sam</p>]]></summary>

			<title type="html"><![CDATA[Fulltime Harbormaster]]></title>

			<summary type="html"><![CDATA[<p>Gordon Weil has offered the Harbor and Waterfront Committee an opportunity to make an amendment to Article (49?) which would provide for a fulltime or fuller time harbormaster. The fuller harbormaster would be paid out of a small increase in mooring fees.</p><p>The Committee will meet on Tuesday to decide what, if anything, it would like to propose.</p><p>Needless to say, the committee would be very interested in any opinions for or against that are out there. The committee is David Moody, Bruce Dyer, Matt Rogers, Peter Darling, Jim Hays, Frank Kibbe, Stewart Tuttle, Wes Coffin, Burr Taylor.</p><p>Please comment with a committee member or here.</p><p>Burr Taylor</p>]]></summary>
